Why Do Conveyor and Material Handling Systems Matter To Me?

February 28, 2022

Unless you work at a distribution center, chances are you rarely think much about conveyor or material handling systems. We’d also be willing to bet that you give little thought to how your packages containing day-to-day goods, groceries, and even tires for your car show up at your doorstep or the facility from which you buy them. At BCU Electric, we spend a pretty good chunk of our time designing and implementing conveyor and material handling systems. Hence, you never have to wonder how all of your favorite things magically arrive where they are supposed to be.

Though the concept of a distribution center may seem cut and dry, there are many different types of conveyor systems that make the smooth operation of them a possibility. Today we’ll highlight the three industries that make use of our conveyor and material handling systems.

Distribution Industry

The distribution industry is responsible for the delivery of the vast majority of the packages you order and receive at your home. When you order a good from a large online retailer, that item passes through a distribution center that sorts it and places it on the right track for packaging and delivery.

All of the processes in the distribution industry, from the belts to the sorters to the scanners, involve a specialized conveyor system made possible by BCU Electric. For example, we install sortation conveyors, motorized roller conveyor systems, and scanners and weighing systems. These systems allow mass quantities of goods to pass through facilities and make it to their destination in the shortest possible amount of time.

Parcel Industry

While the distribution of goods is fantastic, none of it would be possible without the distribution of the parcels in which those goods are housed. The parcel industry accounts for a large portion of BCU Electric’s conveyor and material handling systems business.

Within the parcel industry, systems such as soft pac, polybag, and corrugated boxes provide the packaging for distribution centers that handle the actual goods. In addition to these parcel systems, high-speed sortation systems, tilt tray systems, and crossbelt sorters make the production of these parcels possible.

Rubber Industry

The rubber industry may not be quite as exciting as the industries that keep packages coming to your doorstep, but it does provide a service and commodity that we use every single day: tires. That’s right- without BCU Electric’s conveyor and material handling system services within the rubber industry, our cars wouldn’t be road-worthy.

Batch-off systems, carbon black systems, tire stackers and destackers, and loading and unloading systems are among the most essential components that allow rubber goods to be built and distributed so that the general public can continue to make use of everyday rubber items that make our lives easier.

Though we may not think about exactly how our daily goods come into our possession, there is a whole system at work behind the scenes making sure we have the things we need and want. BCU Electric is proud to be part of the system and play a role in bringing function and enjoyment to households throughout America- and beyond.
